excitement is waiting for you on the Naknek River!
Captain John can almost guarantee you a
successful fishing trip. Fishing with Capt. John certainly
stacks the odds in your favor. He knows the water and he

At Salmon King Lodge, you will spend 8 hours per day trolling,

tips. Beginners and experts alike will go home with
knowledge that will help them wherever they go fishing.
Salmon King Lodge offers the opportunity to

welcome. In addition to the Naknek River, anglers will also
be able to enjoy angling opportunities in Naknek Lake, Big Creek, Paul's
Creek, and more. Please read below for details on fish species,

| "My first fishing trip
EVER was with Capt. John. He has a lot of
patience with beginners, and is very helpful
and considerate. It was a tremendous
experience, one that I will never forget!"
Lynne Kastal, 2004 |

In addition to the awesome salmon fishing, anglers can enjoy
exciting fishing for wild rainbow trout. The Naknek River
is the premier wild rainbow trout fishery in Alaska, with
specimens as large as 17 lbs. and up to 36" long.
In the spring, the trout move down from Naknek Lake into the
river to spawn and wait for salmon smolt. In the fall, the
fish are very predatory power eaters that are eating everything
in sight to fatten up for winter survival.
The aggressive, predatory rainbow trout will jump, splash, and
fight with you all day! Join us for spring and fall fishing action
with these great competitors in the golden glow of the beautiful
Alaskan surroundings.
The 2005 Rainbow Season Opener will be June 8-14, and the
fall season will be September 4-10. Book early!

Equipment |
|
Boats |
Both fishing boats
are 20 ft. Lund, with 80 and 115 mph, 4-stroke
motors. Each is outfitted with
custom fish boxes to keep the catch fresh,
kicker motor,
depth finders, rod holders, and comfortable
seats. The boats are very roomy, and can
easily accommodate four anglers. The
boats also offer a very stable ride, and handle
choppy waters well. |
|
Tackle |
First class tackle
such as Lamiglass rods, Abu Garcia reels, a
wide variety of lures for casting and
backtrolling, custom built fly rods with STH
reels, and centerpin fishing with Damon rods
and Raven reels. All top-notch, and with
redundancy so that you never experience
"downtime" due to equipment failure. |
|
Flyfishing |
We recommend 8
weight fly rods with floating and fast sinking
line. 200 Teeny works great.
Flies to Tie:
Chinook - salmon
egg patterns, size 2 or larger
Sockeye - small
nymphs, size 6 or 8
Humpy - anything
pink, size 2 or 4
Coho - leeches &
salmon egg pattern, size 2 or 4
